Around 525 people have been evacuated from Gadchiroli district in Maharashtra after heavy rainfall in neighboring Chhattisgarh caused severe flooding. District officials say the rescue effort in Bhamragad began Thursday afternoon and continued through the night. With waters beginning to recede, conditions in the affected areas are gradually stabilizing.
Local administration carried out the operations under District Collector Avishyant Panda and Tehsildar Kishor Bagde. Officials said resident safety remained the top priority, with authorities continuing to monitor the situation closely.
Among those rescued was an ailing student from Binagonda Ashram School. An NDRF team helped her cross the flooded Gundenur nullah before transporting her to the Primary Health Centre at Laheri for medical treatment.
The Gadchiroli district administration has urged residents along riverbanks and in low-lying areas to remain alert. People have been advised to follow official instructions and avoid roads or routes where water is still flowing.
Flooding in Chhattisgarh
Meanwhile, persistent rainfall over the past 24 hours has caused flood-like conditions across parts of Chhattisgarh. Rising water levels in the Kharun River have led to waterlogging in villages across Raipur and Durg districts. The river has submerged roads and affected daily life in several riverside communities.
The road connecting Raipur to Patan and Durg via Mahadev Ghat has been submerged, disrupting commuter movement. Flood-like conditions have also been reported in Amleshwar and Khudmuda villages in Durg district, where water levels have risen significantly. Roads in several areas have become impassable, and water has entered numerous homes.
The Raipur-Bhilai road via Mahadev Ghat has also been affected. Strong water flow across these routes has disrupted traffic, making travel difficult for residents.
