PM Palem Residents Protest at GVMC Reservoir Over Water …

Residents of an apartment complex near the international cricket stadium in PM Palem staged a protest at the GVMC balancing reservoir in Yendada on Saturday night, demanding restoration of drinking water supply that they said had been disrupted for more than a month.

The complex houses 12 blocks with 1,428 homes and requires approximately 9 lakh litres of water daily, according to residents. They alleged the Greater Visakhakhapatnam Municipal Corporation was supplying only about four tankers a day, falling far short of basic domestic needs.

Protesters gathered at the GVMC facility around 9pm, switching on mobile phone flashlights and raising slogans. A resident said families struggled to manage everyday tasks, with children and elderly residents bearing the brunt of the shortage. Another resident said the situation had deteriorated significantly over the past four days, leaving residents without adequate tanker water and unable to book private tankers after reaching booking limits.

Residents said they had approached municipal officials and elected representatives seeking relief, but no concrete solution had emerged. Officials later assured the group that eight GVMC tankers would be dispatched to the complex immediately. Following the assurance, the protest concluded around 10pm.
